The South Florida Bulls and North Carolina State Wolfpack meet up in Week 1 at Carter–Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and the game will air on the ACC Network.

South Florida failed to beat an FBS team during the Covid-shortened 2020 season. North Carolina transfer quarterback Cade Fortin will be the starting quarterback, who started multiple games in the ACC before moving to Tampa. NC State was 8-4 in 2020, and will have Devin Leary back at quarterback for a team that looks to move up the ladder in the ACC Atlantic Division.

If you aren’t around a TV to watch the game on DAY, you can live stream it on the ACC Network subset of WatchESPN or ESPN app available for iOS, in the Google Play Store, Amazon App store and more. It will require a cable login with access to the ACC Network, however. If you don’t have a cable login with access, you can get a free trial from YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, AT&T TV Now, FuboTV, or Sling TV to stream the game.

NC State is a 19-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook, and -1000 on the moneyline. That makes South Florida a +650 moneyline underdog, with the point total is set at 59.

Who's Playing

South Florida @ No. 23 NC State

Last Season Records: NC State 8-4; South Florida 1-8

What to Know

The NC State Wolfpack and the South Florida Bulls will face off at 7:30 p.m. ET Sept. 2 at Carter-Finley Stadium to kick off their 2021 seasons. While NC State was not exactly top dog last season, they did wrap up the year with a winning record of 8-4. Meanwhile, coming off of an uninspired 1-8 last-season record, South Florida has set their aspirations higher this year.

A couple last-season defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: The Wolfpack were 12th best in the nation (top 9%) in sacks, finishing the 2020 season with 32. Less enviably, the Bulls ranked ninth worst in the nation with respect to touchdowns allowed last season, where the squad gave up 41. The good news for South Florida, of course, is that these forces working against them might not carry over into the new season.

NC State is the favorite in this one, with an expected 18.5-point margin of victory. A victory is hardly a sure thing, especially this early in the season, so expect a good game.

USF football begins Year 2 of the Jeff Scott era and the 25th season in program history with a Thursday night showdown on the road against North Carolina State.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

USF comes into the season after going 1-8 in 2020. Their starting quarterback is Cade Fortin, a North Carolina transfer who played in parts of two games last season. He was part of a talented QB Class of 2018 that included Jaguars No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence, Bears first-round pick Justin Fields and Emory Jones, the starter for the Florida Gators. The Bulls' defense is led by linebackers Antonio Greir and Dwayne Boyles.

NC State went 8-4 last season and played in the Gator Bowl, which the Wolfpack lost 23-21 to Kentucky. QB Devin Leary is coming back from a broken calf bone, but he'll have a strong running game, led by Zonovan "Bam" Knight. NC State's defense is spearheaded by linebacker Payton Wilson, who led the ACC in tackles in 2020. The Wolfpack are coached by Dave Doeren, entering his ninth season in Raleigh.

QB1:Fortin needs to lead Bulls' charge

Opinion:USF's 'progress' needs to show up against N.C. State
